Harold Shaw was the Brisbane proprietor and hardware merchant operating George Shaw and Co., a prominent enterprise with a strong history in the CBD.Shop passed onto Harold and other shared owners via George Shaw.

Cause of death from certificate:

Fulminant bronchopneumonia and Subarachnoid haemorrhage.

Interpretation: This was a sudden brain hemorrhage or stroke of blood around the brain with no warning. Followed by 16 days of decline and pneumonia.  THis gave Dad time to visit. As kids, we did not know this was going on.

The marriage of Mr. Harold William
Shaw (only son of Mr. and and Mrs. George
Shaw, Kangaroo Point) and Miss Florence
Minnie Home (youngest daughter of the
late Mr. R. Home and Mrs. Home,
Chermside) was celebrated at St. Mary’s
Church, Kangaroo Point, on June 21. The
Rev. Mr. Peary officiated. The bride,
who was given away by her brother-in-
law, Mr. C. W. Deans, was frocked in
ivory satin, with an overdress of Chantilly
lace. Her tulle veil and wreath of orange
blossoms was lent by Mrs. Brown
(cousin of the bridegroom). She carried
a bouquet of white camellias and euchar-
ist lilies. Misses Violet Deans (niece of
the bride), Dorothy Hughes, and little
Nellie Hull attended as bridesmaids. Miss
Deans was frocked in lemon-coloured
georgette, finished at the side with tiny
frills embroidered in mauve. Miss Hughes
wore a flock of lavender cachemire de
soie, adorned with silver lace. Both maids
wore black picture hats and carried bou-
quets to harmonise with their frocks.
Little Nellie Hull wore a dress of pale
pink crepe de Chine, finished with frills
of lemon-tinted georgette. Her “Lady
Betty” hat was finished with pale pink
flowers, and she carried a basket of pale
pink and mauve flowers. Mr. L. Ward
(Graceville) carried out the duties of best
man. At the conclusion of the ceremony
a reception was held at the residence of
Mrs. George Shaw (Kangaroo Point).
Mrs. Shaw rerceived the guests in a navy
tailleur adorned with Oriental soutache
and fur. She also wore a toque to har-
monise. Mrs. Home (mother of the
bride) was gowned in black satin grena-
dine, relieved with blue satin. She wore
a small black hat. On leaving for the
honeymoon, which was spent at Woody
Point, the bride wore an elaborate crochet
frock in deep maroon, and a pull-on hat
to match.
